Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
