A extended cruise through the Land Down Under was terminated in the wake of the tragic passing of an older lady who was stranded by the vessel on a distant island.

The elderly woman had been walking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the vessel, but broke off from the excursion for a break. The ship departed without her and came back after some time after the personnel discovered the passenger was not present.

An extensive search operation found her body the next day.

Authorities are investigating the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Head of the shipping company stated that passengers and crew on the Coral Adventurer were told that the continuation of the voyage had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and previous mechanical issues".

In a statement, he further stated that guests would be issued a full refund, and said the organization was working "to organize the travel back of the individuals via private aircraft".

Officials also issued an updated statement, and said they had "provided a notice to the Master" banning any new passengers from entering the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the ship in Cairns upon its return.

The ship initially left the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the point of the elderly woman's passing. The tropical location was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Passengers on the ship - who usually pay large sums of currency to join the expedition - were ferried there for a day trip with the possibility of hiking or snorkelling.

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her relatives was "shocked and grieved that the vessel left the island after an planned outing without my parent".

In her statement, she described her mother as an "active 80-year-old" who was a member of a walking organization.

"According to scant information we have been informed, it looks that there was a lapse of attention and ordinary reasoning," she mentioned.

She continued that she desired the investigation would be able to determine what "the operator should have undertaken that might have protected Mother's life".
