It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have been successfully scaled.

This is the unit that has won seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and once went nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, targeted by the achievement hunters, are what's still available for a side that has achieved everything.

The fact it required as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, taking back their record for the largest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, honestly, a tribute to the pitchers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their hitters to maintain a record if never given the opportunity.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy getting a platform to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Then best known as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup arrived three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have resulted from 10 efforts across formats.

The tough gloveman was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the winning streak.

That loss "motivated us to reevaluate our levels," Healy stated recently.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the final and was named player of the tournament. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

If this recent magnificent innings surpassed that earlier display remains open for discussion.

Certain people claim the case for final game tension. Others can counter with the test that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this hundred was much more difficult to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 came as she led the batting statistics, but this innings came after six matches in India over the past few weeks in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"For those following me in the nets, it's been a challenging time because it appeared I lacked timing completely," commented Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your competitive nature activate and you simply focus on the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her key asset - and a priceless quality in succeeding iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's motivation.

A single was taken off Gaud's first delivery and after that the batsman was on her way.

"An opportunity to take the field and face the challenge with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, somewhat inspired me," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 as she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three sixes.

Once she was dismissed the team needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - a manageable total now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I am glad we have the belief to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it again but, if necessary, we believe we can succeed."

That comment will be the final thing Australia's opponents at this tournament need to hear.

During the last week a feeling they will succeed regardless of circumstances has grown stronger - this triumph following win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final place may well be secure.

During that phase they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she later said she wished she had played through the pain.

But while she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have pushed back plans to retire, this championship is expected to be her concluding event as leader in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as skipper.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
